Star Television and Audio owns the only fully equipped Television Production Unit currently in the Eastern Cape. Although the company is based in Port Elizabeth, it lends itself perfectly to service not only Bhisho and East London but even as far as Cape Town. The unit is small and mobile as well as agile enough to navigate even the worst routes in South Africa.  It is a well equipped and simple to operate unit but delivers exceptional quality both picture and sound.

The Outside broadcasting unit is also well suited for smaller non-broadcast events such as big screen camera units as the DVD recorder gives clients the opportunity to have a fully completed DVD at the end of the evening’s or day’s events.  It is based on a Mercedes Bens Sprinter chassis and is agile enough to be moved into confined areas yet large enough inside to facilitate  a pleasant working environment.  There are 4 cameras on controllable camera chains and gives you full  color, synchronization and all the important quality controls at your finger tips.

It also has a unique lay out which enable you free movement to and from the audio desk at all times.

Should the need arise, due to staff shortages or low budget productions, the vision mixer can also do his/her own camera control as it is in easy reach of arms length. This is why the production unit can be operated with only one or two staff instead of the usual four required. The Waveform monitor and vector scope is easy to read and at hand for either engineer or vision mixer. Display can be changed with ease using the matrix switcher.

The vision mixer is the trusty old Sony BVM 3200 with ten synchronized inputs and dual switch able busses.  The sound is channeled through a fully digital desk with built in effects, gates and limiter options. Although the Soundcraft Spirit desk is not for the novice , it is still simple enough to be operated by a junior sound person.

All audio feeds are fed from a panel on the rear technical bay of the OB-van so once rigged, the main doors can be closed and locked for secure overnight parking at the venue.  Although the desk has all the gadgets possible,  dbx outboard ‘Pro-Gate and Limiter” equipment is also available.  The video monitor is split to show the sound operator any view of his choice.  Final TX, preview or camera points.
